Places I Miss in Snellville

Woody's Barbeque Restaurant on US78 closed and is now some kind of steak joint (I think it's called the Prime Rib?) that features alcohol as one of the main entrees. To get any BBQ of any quality, I now need to go to Spiced Rite BBQ on Hwy 29/Lawrenceville Hwy in Lilburn.

Chapter 11 Books in the same plaza on US78 in Snellville eased away from 10% off all their books by working in a pay-for-a-discount membership program, then it became an outlet bookstore, now it's gone altogether.

Too Crafty Gifts store was on the corner in the same plaza, next to Provino's Italian Restaurant. It featured hand-made items from local artisans (a consignment type craft store). I also sold my pencil art there. It's been gone for several years now.

Snellville Christmas Tree makes news in San Diego CA!

>>Georgia Town Renames Holiday Tree

(Snellville, GA) -- It is officially a "Christmas" tree in Snellville, Georgia. The mayor and city council voted unanimously to rename the "holiday tree" in Briscoe Park. Councilman Bruce Garraway authored the resolution putting Christmas back into the tree and said it was not to be bigoted to any other religions or anyone who celebrates anything else during the holiday season. This was just another in a series of Christmas versus holiday battles this year. Ousted Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown got flack from residents when the city's tree was named "the Grand tree." Also, U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert ordered the Capitol holiday tree be called a Christmas tree.

Briscoe Park Tree Lighting Festivities

Many times, clowns totally freak me out, but this lady was nice and didn't give me the creeps. My son shows off the turtle balloon he received.

Cake and Cookies at Snellville Tree Lighting Briscoe Park 2005

Of course, we can't forget cake and cookies! The cake was provided by Snellville Wal-Mart, and the Snellville Keenagers Club members served up the goodies to an adoring public!

ABWA South Gwinnett Chapter's Hot Cocoa Table

After the tree lighting ceremony in Snellville, the hot cocoa table was extremely popular and appreciated. The American Business Women's Association South Gwinnett Chapter provided this service to the community.

At Briscoe Park

Some kids out enjoying the cccold and wwwindy festivities at Briscoe Park for Snellville's tree lighting ceremony, which took place at 7 pm on December 5th. Each family got a candle to have lighted at the end, but the wind was so strong that the candle lightings were not very successful this year.

A rather poor shot of the Snellville Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Sorry for the camera shake! Lots of wind.

Snellville Christmas Tree Lighting - Briscoe Park

The Snellville Christmas tree lighting event will be held at 7 pm on Monday December 5th at Briscoe Park on Lenora Church Road in Snellville. Refreshments will be served by the Snellville Keenager's Club, the American Business Women's Association, and Starbucks.
I am a member of the ABWA's South Gwinnett Chapter (a Charter Member!) , but I didn't know that we were doing the refreshments for this thing, because I have been so busy lately I haven't gotten to the meetings.

I know that if I go this year, I will have a lot more fun than last year. My daughters were in the choir last year, so I had the thrill of sitting on a cold chair in the rain (I was lucky to HAVE a seat, really!) I was under the weather.

Even with all that, we still had a lot of fun...and if it doesn't rain this year, it promises to be even better.

PS: I love those Keenagers folks - they always seem like they are having so much fun, and their positive attitudes are catching.

calculating your rightful millage rate

Bob Griggs is a smart guy and he probably knows what all those weird looking button thingies on a calculator are for. If you ever wanted to know about your homeowner taxes, check out MillageRate.com

FYI: In Snellville, most of us were overcharged approximately $17, according to Bob's calculations. I'm not going to question him on it, either. I struggle to help my 6th grade daughters with their math homework - currently mixed fractions. I'm just saying, don't look at me for help here.
But at least I was able to round $16.86 up to $17.
