D'you think Kelly Kautz is being kicked in the grass?

-Photo from AJC

If you've driven down 78 near Oak Road, you've seen that the strip mall building has been torn down. There was a lot of celebrating and posing with shovels, if you recall.

Well apparently folks on the Snellville City Council have been arguing about whether to put sod grass in or do something else. Kelly Kautz, a Snellville attorney who has been on the City Council for about 2 years (I think) asked for reconsideration of the sod, and wanted them to think about mulch. They make her out to seem petty (and I don't know her to be that way, myself)...they have gone ahead and made the assumption that she suggested it because of the drought.

Well, maybe...or just maybe it's because she's one of the main organizers of the Jazz Festival called "Snellville Autumn on the Green" that I thought was going to be in that very spot on October 13 (see my earlier post for details if you want to attend).

Wouldn't we all like grass there? Sure we would. But, do we really think grass is going to be able to be ready or large crowds of people to stomp and sit all over it within just a few days? ....
They'd have to rename the festival Snellville Autumn on the Dead Grass.

Um...I don't think that would work out well. So, I think that's where the mulch instead of sod comes in. But it's a convenient non-issue to use to make your political opponent seem petty, isn't it?

Then I see her referred to in forums as "the youngster" - what are they going to call her when she's older, "an old biddy?" What's her age got to do with it? I could be 99 and still not know enough to be on the Council.

I tell ya, I need to stop reading Snellville political stuff on the Internet. I could never enter politics. If I ever even consider it, please just let me rub my entire body with sandpaper and douse myself with vinegar and salt. It will save me a lot of anguish.

I'm going to email Kelly and ask her for her side of the story, and if you have any side of the story, please feel free to post a Comment by clicking the Comment link below!

October 10, 2007 UPDATE: LINK
The update pretty much clears this all up! It's going to be Bermuda sod because it can withstand drought conditions well. Mulch would violate ordinances (too large an area to be mulched)...so it's all a non-issue...

October 13, 2007 UPDATE:
I invited Kelly Kautz to comment or reply (by email) but I haven't heard back from her.

The grass is going in and Jerry Oberholtzer has said he will pay out of his own pocket for reclaimed water to be trucked in from Buford if necessary.

What about the air pollution from the truck though? LOL! Isn't this like driving 10 miles to save a penny a gallon on gas?

Let's see, If we could just get about 2,500 people from Buford who might drive to Snellville anyway, to carry some Ziploc bags of water in their cars - or better yet, rinsed out milk jugs full of water from the water reclaimation place in Buford... (LOL!!!!)
