New London Theatre Craft Fair Saturday

The New London Theatre of Snellville will hold a craft/art fair festival on Saturday, November 29, 2008 from 9 am until 4 pm.

This is a fundraising event for the theatre. Come and check out all the talented people we have in Snellville and support our local arts.

The New London Theatre is located in the shopping center at the corner of US78 and Scenic Hwy/124 in Snellville. It is in the same shopping center as Big Lots and Provino's. The Theatre is located in the corner of the shopping plaza. You'll find it, there will probably be a lot of people there. Don't miss it!

The press doesn't show both sides of this. There are black racists and white racists, and every-color-in-between racists.

My daughters said black students they didn't even know taunted them in the hallways of South Gwinnett High School, leaning in toward them and shouting "O-Ba-MA!" (Assuming that since my daughters are white, they were for John McCain. They did feel threatened.

I just think we all need to realize what messages we give our children at home.

None of this bad behavior (including below) should be tolerated.

Election spurs 'hundreds' of race threats, crimes

One was in Snellville, Ga., where Denene Millner said a boy on the school bus told her 9-year-old daughter the day after the election: "I hope Obama gets assassinated." That night, someone trashed her sister-in-law's front lawn, mangled the Obama lawn signs, and left two pizza boxes filled with human feces outside the front door, Millner said.

She described her emotions as a combination of anger and fear.

"I can't say that every white person in Snellville is evil and anti-Obama and willing to desecrate my property because one or two idiots did it," said Millner, who is black. "But it definitely makes you look a little different at the people who you live with, and makes you wonder what they're capable of and what they're really thinking."

Potok, who is white, said he believes there is "a large subset of white people in this country who feel that they are losing everything they know, that the country their forefathers built has somehow been stolen from them."

No other serious injuries were reported. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.

I can't believe they even made an article about this. Mayors get together and tease each other. Who woulda guessed?!? I guess I'd rather see "Snellville Mayor Butt of Jokes" instead of "Snellville Mayor Jokes About Butts." Can we just keep our mayor out of any sentence with the word "butt" in it? That would make me very happy. The surprising thing about the article is that some neighboring cities' mayors were unaware of the crematory controversy here in Snellville. That is just amazing to me. We are only 6 miles away from Loganville, and it's not too hard to keep up with the news...as you can see, I try to.

After months of homeowner protests, the Cremation Society of the South was ordered to shut down Oct. 16. I think that he is being proactive in making sure that students behave themselves. I hope that parents will discuss the election with their kids. But I also think that this is basic sportsmanship that parents should have taught their children by the time they were in the first or second grade.

SGHS Senior's Essay Chosen as Semi-Finalist

William Carson, a South Gwinnett High School senior, has been chosen as a Semifinalist in the Ayn Rand Institute’s 2008 Fountainhead essay contest.

William’s essay was chosen out of 5,000 that were submitted! Meg Sullivan, Education Department
Coordinator of the Ayn Rand Institute stated of William’s essay, “your award is certainly a major accomplishment.”

Additionally, William participated in the Georgia PTA Reflections Program this year, and
his poem "WOW" won first place in his category.
