The New London Theatre will have a Spring Craft Bazaar on Saturday, June 6, 2009.
Yes, technically it's summer, not spring, but you know what they mean.
The bazaar will start at 9 am and close at 4 pm. The craft sale will be located at Snellville Plaza - it's the shopping center located at the corner of Hwy 124/Scenic Hwy and US78. Look for it in the corner of the shopping center, in the space between the Snellville Diner and the New London Theatre. It's the same shopping center as Big Lots and Provino's Italian Restaurant.
They'll have tables set up in the parking lot, inside the corner space, and inside the theatre.
Snacks, popcorn, hot dogs, and drinks will be available to purchase.

All the proceeds from space rentals will support the New London Theatre, a non-profit community theater in Snellville.

Accused rapist's wife files for divorce
I didn't like it from the beginning of this case, when reporters mentioned David Jansen's wife by name. Yes, divorce is public record, but his wife isn't a suspect - she's another victim, being further victimized by the press (in my opinion.)
The press wants to be the first with any detail. I had their home address and phone number several days ago. Not to creep you out, but I even had the value of their home, a satellite map of their property, and knew how many bedrooms it had. I found a picture of David Jansen's wife and found out what she does for a living. It's really easy to find out all this info for free.
I could have added it to my Examiner article, but that's not really necessary if you ask me. The wife and children are going through a hard time, and it's not going to get much easier for a long time. It's not their fault their world has been turned upside down. The family needs our support.

Rev. Owen Skinner promotion announced
Dr. Richard Hunter, Senior Paster of Snellville United Methodist Church, has announced today to the congregation that Rev. Owen Skinner (pictured) has been promoted by Bishop Michael Watson to serve as Senior Pastor of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Dalton, Georgia.
Skinner, who has been with Snellville United Methodist Church for eight years, will assume his new post in Dalton beginning July 1, 2009.
Rev. Owen Skinner will preach farewell sermons on June 21, 2009 at all services.
The same evening, they will give Rev. Skinner's voice a rest, but they'll be having a "roast" in his honor. But I couldn't wait. I've already roasted him. I just posted to his Facebook page, "Congratulations. You will now have a short drive to buy carpet."
District Superintendent, Dr. Jim Cantrell is appointing a new associate pastor to serve at Snellville United Methodist Church. The church will share her name and biography next month.
Snellville UMC reports successful Easter event
A good time was had by all at the Easter Egg hunt at Snellville United Methodist Church:
"The day began with a chill in the air and gusts of wind. By the time Rev. Walter Jones asked God to bless this multi-cultural event, things had warmed up with pleasant weather.
The church hid over 5,000 eggs, which were distributed between 4 age-based egg hunt locations. In between egg hunts, families played games on the field such as the 3-legged event or egg balancing with a spoon in a race around a sand pail.
After the final egg hunt, everyone enjoyed an old fashioned pot luck style picnic with fried chicken supplied by the church. There was plenty of food to go around. The line was long, but their bellies were full.
A special thank you to the following people for making the event so successful: Kathi Clotfelter, for announcing the events, prizes, and comedy during the day: Sandi Lee and her Women's Circle for preparing all of the drinks; Stuart Scruggs and the men's group for setting up and servicing the food and ice; Cliff Hagan, Rob Chewning, and Reese Barnes for picking up the fried chicken and meeting the needs of everyone; Fred Potter and William Alsabrook; Bobbie Higginbotham and Melissa Wilson for monitoring egg hunts and making signs for the event.
