What to do at a 4 way stop

I see so many people who are confused by the four-way stops in Snellville. There are many four-way-stops on North Road, and there is so much traffic there, I'm sure the number of accidents are increasing. It's unnecessary, if you know the rules of a 4-way-stop intersection.

Here it is, straight from the Department of Driver's Services manual (pdf):

"At a four-way intersection where all drivers are faced with stop signs, all drivers must yield to pedestrians, otherwise the vehicles should proceed through the intersection on a "first to arrive, first to proceed order." If two vehicles reach the intersection at approximately the same time, yield to any vehicles on your right."
They should add, do not try to text message, Twitter, read a magazine, pick your nose, or daydream. Please pay attention.

If the power goes out and an intersection that normally has a directional light is flashing yellow, then you just follow the rules of the 4-way-stop. ...

Correction with thanks to readers Dad and Shawn:
"Yellow flashing light means you must slow down and exercise caution before proceeding through the intersection”.
Notice it says nothing about stopping. That is reserved for the flashing red light. “A red flashing light means you must stop completely then proceed with caution”.

Snellville Home Occupation business license

City of Snellville is going to be double checking to make sure everybody who should have a business license has one.

If you are in Snellville and you have a home business, you should have a Home Occupation License. If you create something in your home and sell it, you should have one. Even if you have an AVON business, you need one.

It's not as expensive as you might think. My license is about $45 each year. The fee is based on gross receipts. (You can tell I'm not getting rich!) So if you don't have one, get one. In most cities, the penalty for not having one (when you should have one) is greater than just paying the tax and being legal.

I've always considered a side-bonus of having a tax license is that it helps to think of what I do as a business, not just a hobby. So it makes me more serious about my work.

If you're in doubt about whether or not you should have one, go to Snellville City Hall. They'll be happy to answer your questions. You can also visit the City of Snellville's new website at www.Snellville.org . Click on Departments, then choose Planning and Development. You'll find lots of information and printable forms there.

Forged check scam

Unbelievable...I've heard of people stealing checks out of mailboxes, but have you ever heard of people soaking them in a solution to "wash" them so they can use them? Police say the checks were most likely stolen out of the owner's mailbox - checks that were written for routine bills.

"...Inside the vehicle police found a plastic container with two checks floating in an unknown solution along with a PlayStation gaming system....

...In speaking with the owner of the checks, investigators discovered the checks had been written for bill payments and most likely were stolen from a mailbox and then “washed.”

The other two passengers in the vehicle, Jermaine Moore, 27, of Snellville, Ga., and Michael Lamar Jones, 28, of Valdosta, Ga., were arrested and charged with forgery in the first degree."
