Share your thoughts on end of reversible lanes
I still feel it hurts some businesses. If you own a business that isn't lucky enough to be near the exit/U-turn lane, people might consider it too much trouble to 'hang the you-ee' to turn around and head back to your business.
But as a scaredy-cat driver, I kind of like it. I like that some of the impetuous driving behavior has been cut down by the dividers and the designated turn lanes.
Hubs absolutely HATES the dividers. He maintains it will kill businesses along the corridor here just like it played a part in the downward spiral of Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain.
I'm settling into a love-hate relationship with it, but leaning toward liking it more than hating it.
How do you feel about it? Has it changed your driving habits a lot? Has it changed where you shop in Snellville?

I like it. I may not shop at the Home Depot on 78 anymore, but that's more because of the lack of a traffic light, and huge potholes in the parking lot. But those problems existed before the reversible lanes were removed. I find it even harder to exit the lot now, but it was pretty horrible before. That's good news for the Hwy 124 location, or Lowes on 124.
ReplyDeleteI never had a problem with the reversible lanes; I thought they were a good solution to an area with two very distinct traffic patterns each day. I understand the desire to remove them, since there was a certain perceived element of danger. However, I absolutely HATE the dividers. They provide no real safety since a car that hits them at anything more than a crawl will end up on the other side. If dividers were called for, then 4' dividers would have been better. All they have done is make things far more difficult for drivers who want to patronize the businesses on Hwy 78.
