Lilburn, GA (May 10, 2010) – History will be the spotlight of Lilburn’s Centennial Heritage Celebration, which will be held on Saturday, May 15 from 10 AM to 4 PM. Activities will take place in City Park, City Hall and around downtown Lilburn. Highlights include music, games, an ice cream social, mini-museum, heritage crafts and mule-drawn wagon rides.
Activities in City Park will include music throughout the day on the Park stage, an old-fashioned ice cream social hosted by First Baptist Church of Lilburn and Salem Missionary Baptist Church in the Gartrell Nash Pavilion, food from area restaurants, games, heritage craft demonstrations and children’s crafts. The crafts that will be demonstrated include embroidery, knitting, quilting and others.
The City Hall auditorium will house a museum of historic displays. Groups participating in the museum include the Lilburn Historical Society, the Button Gwinnett Stamp Club and Georgia Power. Georgia Power’s display will feature a reproduction 1951 line truck and a replica of a 1902 line wagon. Other displays will include historic houseware items, blacksmith equipment, vintage postage stamps, railroad memorabilia and information about many area churches and homes.
A mule-drawn wagon ride around Old Town Lilburn will give visitors the opportunity to learn more about historic homes and buildings located throughout the downtown area.
