Tornado Warnings Issued For Forsyth, Fulton, Cherokee, Carroll ...
ATLANTA -- Tornado warnings were issued Wednesday afternoon for Forsyth, Fulton, Carroll and Cherokee counties until 5:30 pm, according to WSB-TV Channel 2 chief meteorologist Glenn Burns. Wednesday, February 18, 2009.

This was certainly scary. My daughter and I heard strange noises, we looked at each other and then my daughter looked up weather.com and we saw there was a tornado warning for Snellville. We scrambled everyone into the bathroom (it's the best place we have, unfortunately). Then the hail hit, and it was really scary. I was more scared this time than other times in the past. The really hard part is not letting myself look scared in front of kids.

Tornado watches and warnings will continue through this evening, so keep an eye on the TV or radio news tonight.

Here is the Snellville portion of Channel 2's rundown of events:

6:04 p.m.: Snellville getting large hail.
6:02 p.m.: Tornado reported by NWS near Mountain Park. Centerville, Snellville in path of storm.
6:00 p.m.: Tornado Warning issued for Walton County and southeastern Gwinnett until 6:45

Storms Possibly Headed Toward Us

The storms that hit hard in Arkansas may cause trouble here.

"A strong cold front that spawned overnight tornadoes in Arkansas is headed toward Georgia, and could bring isolated severe storms to metro Atlanta Friday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service warned that there's a slight risk of severe weather across much of the state, with the primary hazards being damaging winds, large hail and lightning."

Snellville's Emergency Plan

"If disaster struck Snellville, police would establish an incident command post and log 12-hour shifts. Public works would help to clear roads and offer other support. Local schools and churches would be used as shelters.

Snellville participates in the county's emergency preparedness plan. City officials would be in communication with the county to get the support the city needs in a natural disaster, said Police Chief Roy Whitehead."
