U.S. Marshal Dragged By Car

More on the fugitive capture that happened earlier today. More details have come to light. The manhunt started at the Rite-Aid Pharmacy at the corner of US78 and Rosebud Road.

"James Ergas, a supervisor-inspector with the marshal's office, said a deputy marshal tried to take Reuben Odell Levy [pictured, pic added May 2, 2008], 35, of South Carolina into custody outside a Rite Aid drug store at Athens Highway and Rosebud Road. Richard Mecum, the U.S. marshal for the Atlanta office, identified the officer as Jeremy Smith.

Mecum said Levy got into a vehicle and drove away, but Smith reached into the car and tried to grab the keys. The marshal was dragged a short distance and shot Levy, Ergas said. Levy drove to the Hawthorn Glen subdivision about a half-mile away and abandoned the vehicle, Mecum said."
