Food left unattended on the stove caused a fire on Hidden Forest Drive in Snellville (the street is off of Springdale near Skyland Drive). The fire happened about 7:30 pm.
One person was cooking and left the stove unattended. Another resident in the house was in the shower and noticed smoke upon leaving the bathroom and was able to get out of the house in time.
The Red Cross is assisting the family of five. Everyone got out safely but a family dog died inside the home.
The home was severely fire damaged in the kitchen and smoke damaged inside the rest of the home. A neighbor told me that "smoke poured out of entire first floor eaves. Pretty scary"
