Snellville bookstore throws Gore Vidal books away in protest

LAWRENCEVILLE - About a dozen of Gore Vidal's books were pulled off the shelves at Books for Less in Buford on Friday and thrown in the trash.

More books were tossed at the Snellville location.

The decision to discontinue selling Vidal's books came after the 83-year-old author called Samantha Geimer, the 13-year-old aspiring model who was drugged and raped by film director Roman Polanski in 1977, a "hooker" during an interview.

"We were kind of shocked to see the story on Gore Vidal's statements," said Books for Less CEO Bryan Mason. "We actively are supporting a ministry that fights human sex trafficking and from our involvement in this ministry, we know how these young traffic victims are affected, the psychological setbacks they face. It's impossible for any 13-year-old girl to consent to that."

I can tell you that fortunately for the bookstore, Gore Vidal's books haven't sold well in years anyway. Gore Vidal isn't going to care that a small bookstore company tossed his books, but it could create a larger ripple in the media.
