Former Payless Shoes location cannot become pawn shop

The Department of Planning and Development has received a Conditional Use Permit Application from Parker Blanchard, RCG Ventures, to operate a title pawn establishment at 2671 Main Street East, formerly Payless Shoes. The Planning Commission heard the case on November 24, 2009 and recommended denial. Mayor and Council had the 1st reading on November 23, 2009 and the public hearing was conducted on December 14, 2009 and was denied by the Mayor and City Council.
I'm sorry for the business owner, but as a resident, I'm glad this was denied. I used to live right near Memorial Drive in Stone Mountain and saw the rapid decline of that area once the median went in and pawn shops came in. But, pawn shops have to be somewhere, so again I do feel a twinge of regret for the business owner. Well! The twinge is already gone now. Whaddya know.

UP NEXT is another pawn establishment wanting to set up shop in Snellville:
The Department of Planning and Development received an application for a Conditional Use Permit from Paul Slifko, owner of Hill Top Pawn, to construct a new building adjacent to the Quick Trip on East Main Street, (Highway 78). The Planning Commission is set to hear the case on January 25, 2010. The Mayor and Council will conduct 1st reading on February 8th 2009, with a public hearing on February 22nd, 2009.
I think that Snellville residents might like having a good quality pawn shop. "Good" and "Quality" being important factors, also where a pawn shop will be allowed. Citizens, if you want or don't want a pawn shop in Snellville, you need to let you city council members know how you feel. If Snellville gets pawn shops, where would you want them located?
