9 injured after car crashes into Snellville restaurant

UPDATE: 9 people were injured
UPDATE: Details about car crash into Snellville restaurant emerge

It's really lucky that nobody was killed in this incident. This happened at the shopping center that is at the corner of  US78 (Main Street) and Scenic Highway/124. The Hot 'N' Cold Chinese Buffet is on the Big Lots end of the shopping center. There had to be some serious speed for the vehicle to go over the median and hit the restaurant - because I know there are usually several rows of parked cars between the highway and the restaurant. Some reports said that the vehicle was driven by a woman in her 50's and that the vehicle hit a row of shrubbery before it hit the restaurant. I'm also hearing that she accelerated as she exited the Krystal restaurant across the street. That has not been verified, however. An eyewitness said it was a terrible scene with quite a bit of panic and smoke.

Kind of unbelievable. You'd think it's far back enough from the road. You're right, it's amazing if anybody in the parking lot or vehicles on the lot was hurt. The AJC article is poorly written enough that any of those things could still be true, though.

Aaaah, the Krystal Acceleration Scenario makes a bit more sense. Sounds awful.

I was actually going to that resteraunt tonight unknowing of what happened, and when I drove by I saw the scene. I asked a guy standing around if he knew what went down and he said the woman driving had a seizure behind the wheel. So assuming that's fully accurate, that would definitely explain a lot.

  4. I did notice in some of the photos now on AJC's website that the vehicle had a handicapped status license plate. The driver was identified in the article as Sharon Swafford, age 58, and the people hurt had scrapes, cuts, and fractures. It also said that she may have had a seizure, but the accident is under investigation by Snellville Police.
