Below is a letter written by Doris Jones, principal of Britt Elementary School. The letter is going out with each of that school's students this afternoon regarding the incident that occurred on the front lawn of the W.C. Britt Elementary campus Friday evening.
August 16, 2010
Like you, I was disturbed to hear about the incident that occurred in front of our school on Friday night after the South Gwinnett High School football game. From all reports, this incident had nothing to do with our school. In fact, neither of the individuals involved are enrolled in any Gwinnett County school. This is an unfortunate example of how sometimes community issues find their way onto school campuses.
If you are interested in more information about what occurred Friday night, I encourage you to go to the South Gwinnett High website where Mr. Hunter, the principal, posted a letter to the South Gwinnett community.
Please know that I will be meeting with our School Resource Officer and the Snellville City Police, as well as the administration of South Gwinnett High School, as they review security procedures for the high school football games and the impact on our campus which sits across the street from the stadium.
The South Gwinnett community is a close-knit one. We take pride in our schools and will work together to
ensure that they remain safe and secure during school hours, as well as after hours.
Thank you for your continued support.
Doris Jones
Principal
W.C. Britt Elementary
