You've heard about the new Snellville Spirit magazine, and you may be wondering where the money came from that paid for that. You may be one of those complaining, "Oh, it's just another excuse for them to spend taxpayer's money!"
I know it's irritating to be cut short by truth when you are just ramping up a really good rant session, but no, the magazine is not costing taxpayers money.
I knew it was funded by S.T.A.T. (Snellville Tourism and Trade), but I wanted to get the facts straight so I called Kelly McAloon, Vice President of the non-profit association. "The magazine and the mailing costs are being paid for with money that STAT has built up" [hotel/motel taxes and membership fees], Said McAloon. "The next issue will have advertising, and with the sales of ads, the publication should become self-supporting."
It gets even better --Snellville Spirit replaces a publication that the City of Snellville issued seasonally in past years. So by having STAT handle the magazine, it reduces city expenditure. People throw the term "no-brainer" around a lot these days, but this really is a no-brainer! The community and businesses in Snellville will be well-served by this magazine.
