The church has come a long way from its humble beginnings in 1883 when Reverend Betts, an evangelist, conducted a revival in the community. From these services, came a group of believers who organized Snellville Methodist Episcopal Church, South. This began what we know of today as Snellville United Methodist Church. The vision of the original church founders for a place of worship planted the seeds of faith in a small community.
During the month of July, Snellville United Methodist will be celebrating its 125th Anniversary. A Homecoming series, beginning July 13, is appropriately entitled “Celebrating the Past – Looking Forward to the Future”.
Among the celebratory events, the church will welcome guest pastors, celebrating persons active with the church for 50 years or more, and enjoying a reunion choir.
"Snellville UMC is blessed with a rich heritage and progressive vision for the future. Please join us in July as we celebrate the past and look forward to the future with grateful anticipation."
Here is a pdf from the Snellville Historical Society, in which the history of Snellville United Methodist Church was featured in their December 2004 newsletter. Several old photos of the church are included.
