Save Snellville Library group formed

On September 22, 2009 the Gwinnett County Library Board voted to transform the Snellville Library from a full service library to a computer lab only open 35 hours a week. No books will be kept on site at the new computer lab. The Save Snellville's Library Citizens Committee is a group of concerned citizens and business leaders in the community who do not believe that a mere computer lab meets the library needs of the Snellville Area. They are asking for your help in Saving the Snellville Library for our community.

According to WHOIS registration, the domain name for the Save Snellville Library group was secured by Snellville City Council member, Kelly Kautz.

"....the group’s executive committee says if it fails to salvage the full-service facility on Lenora Church Road, the group might petition the city to take back the property and building, which was deeded to the county on the condition it be used as a library.

...Kautz, also a Snellville councilwoman, said the group already is researching the cost if the city were to run its own library.

...Snellville Mayor Jerry Oberholtzer, who calls the citizen-led group a “political mess,” said the city should take a wait-and-see posture on the computer lab.
