Some people are apparently confused about the Snellville alcohol sales on Sunday issue, and think it's "all about money." Some people also seem to think the new Snellville Police precinct is a burden on the backs of local homeowners. It's not.
As explained in this blog post I did in May of 2010, and even better explained here, by Dave Emanuel, a member of the Snellville Planning Commission, that what would be a burden on the backs of homeowners would be a 'no' vote on Sunday Sales.
"...the funds for constructing the police station are from SPLOST, and can only be used for specified purposes. The city can either use them as prescribed by law, or lose them.
The economic impact of the ban on Sunday sales reaches far beyond the bottom lines of the restaurants serving alcoholic beverages. It reaches into the pocket of every resident who owns property in the city.

Prohibiting sales of alcoholic beverages on Sunday, when virtually every surrounding city and county jurisdiction allows them, indicates that Snellville is out of touch with with the times.
If you owned a business-- any type of business-- would you locate it in a city that is mired in backward thinking, or one that is progressive and seeking to optimize business opportunities?
Any smart business person would choose the latter. So Snellville loses out not only on upscale restaurants, but also on other businesses. As a result, property values (both residential and commercial) decline because of reduced demand. "
