Read this article and save over $500

By: Damon Harper, Snellville Police Department

Hope that title got your attention. It's true. If you read this entire article and remember its message, you just may save yourself over $500.

Remember that Georgia Law requires all motorists upon seeing a vehicle with flashing emergency red, amber (yellow), or blue lights must do the following:
  • Move over one lane if at all possible.
  • If such a lane change is not possible or feasible, then you are to slow down below the posted speed limit and, (this is the important part): BE PREPARED TO STOP.
Georgia's "Move Over" law is in place so that all our public safety and emergency roadside workers have a safer environment to work.

Please help spread the word. Because if you get a citation for this, you can expect to pay $500 or more in fines.

For more information about Georgia's Move Over Law, see the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety website.

  1. Wow. Thanks. I knew you were supposed to move over or slow down, but $500 or more in fines? That's news!
