Marcy Pharris |
Longtime Snellville volunteer Marcy Pharris awarded city's first "Volunteer of the Year," and will have a day named in her honor.
The City of Snellville surprised Marcy Pharris with a proclamation announcing she'd been designated Snellville's very first Volunteer of the Year at this evening's city council meeting.
Mayor pro tem Barbara Bender read the proclamation, which listed Ms. Pharris' many accomplishments and areas in which she has volunteered. Ms. Pharris is active with the Snellville Farmers' Market, Snellville Board of Appeals, Citizens Police Academy Alumni, Voting Poll, H2U. Pharris also attends Snellville Planning Commission meetings on a regular basis, and is a member and volunteer with the Snellville Tourism and Trade Association (STAT).
Ms. Pharris received not just one, but 3 full rounds of applause and a standing ovation, and it was well deserved. Marcy Pharris must be the hardest working, and most highly unpaid Snellville "employee." If you haven't met her in person, well, all you have to do is attend a Snellville City Council meeting, and she'll be there. After all, she has attended every Snellville City Council meeting since 1990!
Ms. Pharris will be the honored guest at a celebratory dinner and roast held in her honor on "Marcy Pharris Day," Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Summit Chase Country Club. I'm told tickets to the dinner will be $15. Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. The roast will begin at 8 p.m. Ten people are scheduled to roast Ms. Pharris. Snellville City Council Member Tom Witts will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
