"Four candidates are vying to fill the unexpired term of former Chairman Charles Bannister, who resigned in October to avoid indictment on a charge of perjury. His resignation came as a special grand jury wrapped up its investigation into county land purchases.

The candidates in the election are Republicans Charlotte Nash, a Dacula resident and former Gwinnett County administrator; Larry Gause, a Tucker resident and former Naval officer; and Duane Kissel, a Snellville resident and former Gwinnett assistant police chief and Libertarian Will Costa, a Lilburn resident and business owner."
