New London Theatre Presents the "One Act Showcase"

The New London Theatre will present the "One Act Showcase" beginning at
the end of May. The showcase features 9 'one act' (short) plays directed by
newcomers to New London's directing roster. The schedule of plays will
alternate performance nights.

The Bill of Fare includes:

CHECK PLEASE:
Director, Cassie Clack, cassieclack@yahoo.com Dating can
be hard, especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac, or
your grandmother's bridge partner, or a mime. Check Please follows a series
of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse - until they do. Could
there possibly be a light at the end of the tunnel?

FAMILY AFFAIR:
Director, Patricia Cox, PSC2490@yahoo.com A comedy
about a somewhat abnormal family coping with the engagement of their oldest
child to a much older man.

THE GIRL WHOSE FORTUNE SOUGHT HER:
Director, Anna Jones,
anna.jones11@gmail.com A young girl named Melinda becomes eager to find
her place in the world. She agrees to stay home and not go in search of her
place if her mother allows her to wait in her front yard until it finds =
her. During her wait she comes across numerous characters that help her =
realize her place in the world is right in front of her face.

MAJORITY RULES:
Director, Kyle Simonis, kylesimonis@comcast.net When a
woman is put on trial for speaking an "illegal language" on the island
of Cretin, the complex, ever-changing laws of the court provide an
hilarious experience for audiences of all ages. This one-act parodies both the
complexities of a legal trial and the seemingly necessary need for a
universal language. Younger kids will enjoy the ageless informality of
the trial, while the older "kids-at-heart" will chuckle at the many cracks
directed towards the absurdity of the legal proceedings.

QUEEN IN TH KITCHEN:
Director, Lorrie Harris, lorrie@bellsouth.net
There is trouble in the kingdom! The Queen hates the food that the Chef and
cooks have been making, so she decides to take matters into her own hands -
and makes a very interesting dish. In the meantime, a Peasant has asked for
the Princess's hand in marriage - becoming a "royal pain" to the Queen, who
wants her to marry the Duke! The twists and turns of this silly tale
receive an added "ummph" from a selection of Motown song segments
intermingled with the dialogue. Think "Shrek in the Kitchen" - sort of.

RAPUNZEL:
Director, Joan Apperson shortnsweet09@hotmail.com Rapunzel,
a childhood favorite, is a mix of the magical and the ordinary. When the
doll maker is forced to make a deal with the evil, hateful witch, he has no
choice other than to promise her his first born daughter. Rapunzel is
then raised in the witch's tower to become a witch herself someday. However,
Rapunzel is kind and beautiful and does not want any part of learning =
the witch's mean and nasty spells. It seems like she will be trapped there
forever, until one day...there came this prince..

ROMEO & JULIET (ABRIDGED):
Director, Kathleen Mardis, kathi@mardis.com
William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet done by two actors (and a
narrator)in about 15 minutes. For those of you unfamiliar, this is from the
Reduced Shakespeare Company's Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)
where they do his complete works (including the sonnets) in 90
minutes...needless to say...this is a comedy.

THE STORM:
Director, Tony Webb, custompictures@msn.com Four years
earlier in a blinding snow storm, Jeff's car veers off the road and hits an on
coming car. The woman driving the car was killed along with her young
daughter. Jeff, unable to live with himself, has been on the run with
his wife, Mary, since this tragic accident took place. Presently, both are
stuck in a cabin with their young baby son, Mikey. It's getting dark
outside as evening approaches. A heavy blanket of snow is on the ground
when a blizzard begins to howl. Somehow a Hunter is able to make it to
the front door. Who is this stranger? Why did he go out in this blizzard?
And, who is the Woman and Young Girl who arrive soon after the Hunter?
Watch as the interaction and tension builds to a breaking point. What
will be the outcome?

TRIFLES:
Director, Beth Elam, bethelam@bellsouth.net Join the =
sheriff, county attorney and local ladies in a "what goes around comes around" =
story that will challenge you with moral questions. On what basis do we judge
people? What is our responsibility when we see those around us =
suffering" Are there absolutes when it comes to justice? Will your answers be the =
same after entering John Wright's life...and death?

The public is cordially invited to attend.
