I have a savings account at ING Direct, and I put $75 in it every month and it currently earns 3% interest. When it's time to pay property tax, the money's set aside in my Property Tax Fund account and it's not so much of a hit.
If you've gotta pay it, you might as well earn some interest on it through the year. ING Direct is a 'paperless' bank - you can do all your transactions online or by toll free phone number. It's free to join, no fees, and if you open a checking account, you get a MasterCard debit card which also has no fees.
If you are paying your bank $15 or more for monthly "service" or checking, demand better. If you are interested in starting an ING Direct account, email me and I can send you a referral email that will put $25 in your account when you start your ING account with $250 deposit.
