A small fire broke out in an apartment unit on Wiloaks Drive in Snellville. Nobody was hurt, but residents of the other apartments had to sit in their cars in the cold until given the all clear to go back inside. The fire started from a clothes dryer. More
Dryer & Safety Tips:
- Know where your shoes are, so in case of emergency you'll have 'em.
- Clean out your clothes dryer filter before every load. Clothing fibers are extremely flammable!!!
- Use a clothes dryer vent brush to get down deeper and remove the extra lint that gets past the filter.
- Use a clothes dryer hose brush to get the lint out of the hose
- Make sure your dryer vent hose isn't plastic. The old plastic vent hoses are still sold in stores, but they are no longer compliant with safety code. Replace with a metal hose.
- If you're renting, get renter's insurance. It's not as expensive as you think. Ask yourself whether you'd like to pay a small amount each month, or if you would like to replace all your belongings and clothing out of your own pocket after a crisis.
