Letter from our local food bank director

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the many clients of the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry, I extend gratitude to you for your continued prayers, support, presence, and interest in this ministry.

Many families continue to seek assistance through the Co-op. During 2010, we have seen an average of 600 families each month. Approximately 20% are first time visitors to the Co-op. These families represent about 1,500 adults and 1,000 children. Truly, we are seeing the fallout from months of financial strain due to our sluggish economy.

Yes, the children we serve attend your child's school. Yes, they are in your child's homeroom. Yes, their parents look like me and yes, they look like you. Many of these families have lived off of savings that has now run dry. Many parents have done without, so that their children can have a warm meal on the table.

We know full well that the food and finances we provide are a temporary respite from a struggle that can seem to engulf those involved. But we also know full well that we are here to serve the Lord. We are here to point others to that Eternal Hope, which is Jesus Christ. To that place where, despite outward circumstances, "it is well with my soul."

As of Friday, March 05, 2010, we have depleted our resources for client assistance. Wow! It has been amazing. We have distributed over $50,000 in utility and prescription assistance this year.

It has been a while since the "No Financial Assistance Today" sign has been hung outside the door. We actually had to dig to find it!

Hopefully real soon we will be able to lose it again!!
May God Bless You All.

Serving Christ with you,
Laura Drake - Director
