Snellville lawyer to meet with troubled Haitian dictator

Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier
Controversial former Haitian president Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier had been living in obscurity in France after civil unrest and U.S. pressure forced his exile in 1986. Faced with mounting civil suits and a reopened 2008 case that alleges embezzlement, money laundering and murder, Duvalier called on three Georgia attorneys for advice and agreed to fly them Thursday night to Haiti.

The counsel includes Snellville attorney Mike Puglise and longtime associates Jasper-based attorney Ed Marger and Cobb attorney Bob Barr, a former congressman and 2008 Libertarian Party presidential nominee. Puglise said the meeting with Duvalier is scheduled sometime today at his Port-Au-Prince hotel.
