Career Exploring is a program under the Boy Scouts of America that offer training and experience to teens and young adults ages 14-20 who are interested in a career in law enforcement.
The Snellville Police Department has its own Exploring program that offers youths a chance to train (and ride) alongside police officers to experience what it's like. The Snellville Police Explorers meet every week for training and education in the field of Law Enforcement. They compete with other Police Explorer posts several times a year in law enforcement-related competition events.
Snellville Police Department's Explorer group has just returned from competing in the Winterfest 2011 program in Gatlinburg, Tenn., where they competed in 6 events. They placed First in Class B Uniform Inspection and Second Place in Warrant Service and Accident Investigations. Snellville's Explorers competed against 70 other agencies. The leader of the Explorers group of the Snellville Police Department is Officer Damon Harper.
Donations made to the Explorer program go towards uniforms, gear, and training equipment. The Explorer program is completely funded through private donations.
