The Snellville Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) lets you learn what it is like to be a police officer. The program was designed to educate the citizens and business owners of Snellville about their Police Department and how officers enforce local and state laws. It's a free 10-week program, consisting of weekly meetings on Thursday nights (plus 1 Saturday) at the Snellville Police Department. The course includes both classroom and hands-on instruction.
Some of the topics covered include: traffic law and traffic stops, DUI investigation, firearms safety, weapons training, building searches and crime scene investigation. A ride-along program with officers and a tour of the Gwinnett County Jail are included in the itinerary.
This year's Citizen Police Academy will begin on March 10, 2011 and applications must be received by March 4.
For more information, visit the Citizen's Police Academy page of Snellville.org
To apply, print and fill out the Citizen 's Police Academy Application (pdf). If you are unable to print it, just go to the new Snellville Police Department headquarters located on Wisteria Drive and fill one out there.
