Briscoe Park Pool Info

We are really having some very hot days in Snellville now, and they say it's only going to get hotter!

Here's the information about the Briscoe Park Pool on the City of Snellville's Website.

Want a pool membership for a season in a neighborhood pool?
Check out this post about Nob Hill Subdivision pool, and this one about Brookside Pool and Tennis. Both were accepting new members at the time those blog posts were written. If you want to be in a pool often, and especially if you have a large family, the neighborhood pools may be a better option for you.

For example, this years' pricing for Briscoe Park Pool is $4 for people ages 4-49. I have six people in my family, so 6 x 4 = $24 per visit, but a membership at a neighborhood pool runs from $300-$475 for an entire season. Since we want to go often, the neighborhood pool works better for us, because we'd only get about a dozen visits to the Briscoe Pool for around the same amount of money.

For singles or smaller families, Briscoe Park's Pool is a great option that doesn't require any commitment other than the entry fee. Those younger than 4 and older than 49 pay only $1 to use Briscoe Park's Community Pool, and that's a great deal.

Cycle of stupidity

Ever wonder why, when you go to Briscoe Park, that there's so much duck dookie?
  1. It's because people feed the waterfowl.
  2. These same people completely disregard posted legal notices to not feed the waterfowl.
  3. Then the birds poop.
  4. The the people who fed the birds complain the park management about the bird poop.
  5. Repeat.

Mayor Oberholtzer goes for a slide at Briscoe Park

Mayor Oberholtzer is braver than I am! I'd be afraid my heinie would get stuck in the slide.

Kids, don't try this at home.
Try it at Briscoe Park's new playground.
Here are some photos of the playground equipment
(without a mayor on it)

L to R, Mayor Pro Tem Barbara Bender; Sam Brown, HDR Engineering; Billy Buckhalt, Construction Manager; Russell Treadway, City Manager; Lisa Platt, Park Maintenance Supervisor; Mayor Jerry Oberholtzer; Councilman Warren Auld; Robby Bryant, HDR Engineering; Ryan Healan, HDR Engineering; Cyndee Bonacci, Director of Parks and Recreation

Hey, and guess what? There's more parking near the playground too.

No mayors were harmed in the creation of this blog post.

Native American Event - CANCELED

NOTE: This has been canceled. Big thank you to Tod Warner for letting me know!

Wednesday October 29 and Thursday, October 30th, an educational event will be taking place at Briscoe Park.

Touch the Earth with Native People
Time: 9:30 am until 2 pm
Cost: $8 admission (plus extra funds for "Trading Post" items)

Visit the website NativePeople.org for more information.
I especially like it that they list prices for the souvenir items on their website.

I'm considering checking my Kindergarten-aged son out of school early to go to this. Taking him to this event before taking him to school isn't an option. I'm sure he would chatter up a storm all the rest of the day if I took him to this first!

Metal Detection at Briscoe Park

I've often thought about getting a metal detector (or two)...seems like a fun family activity. Today I found a post on a treasure hunting message board that seems to indicate that metal detecting is forbidden at Briscoe Park in Snellville. I don't know why it would be forbidden - unless it is because people would be digging here and there. Can anybody give me the 'heads up' on this?
